ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) — A group in Vermilion Parish has filed a lawsuit in an attempt to void the $100 billion deal to build the largest spaceport in the world to the parish.

The lawsuit, brought by three parish residents and a group called Vermilion Citizens Coalition, alleges the Vermilion Parish Police Jury and the parish’s Industrial Development Board repeatedly violated Louisiana’s open meetings law in the run-up to the deal, which was announced Aug. 25.

“If it comes to pass, the $100 billion SpaceX spaceport proposed for 125,000 acres of coastal marsh in Vermilion Parish would be the biggest change to landscape, culture, economy, and environment in the history of the parish – for better or for worse,” the lawsuit reads.
